Willie Jean Mims- Wheeler has been a nurse for the past 36 years. She is dedicated to compassionate care of her patients, their families and overall commitment to serving her community.
A graduate of Tyler Junior College’s Licensed Vocational Nurse Program, she has held positions in her nursing career that include Director of Nursing, Assistant Director of Nursing, Nurse Training Coordinator, and Unit Nurse Manager. Currently, as a Charge Nurse at Clairmont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Tyler, Texas, she applies her expertise in resident assessment, supervision of subordinate staff, and collaborating with Hospice care services. In support of her profession, she serves as secretary for Black Nurses Rock Tyler, Texas. She is also a graduate of the Black Nurses Rock Leadership Academy, class of 2017. Other professional affiliations include being a Diabetic Self-Management (Conservation Maps) Facilitator at Merck, Cabot Reward Volunteer and an American Heart Ambassador.
Within her community, Willie Jean devotes her energies and interest in support of an array of positive community organizations. She is a member of the NAACP Tyler Local 6323 and co-chair of Women in NAACP (W.I.N.), Local 6232. She is also a member of the Order of Eastern Star #55 of the Rose City Civitan Club, the Phillip Randolph Institution, the Divine Divas Motorcycle Club, and the Rose City Chapter of Top Ladies of Distinction, for which she is also secretary. In addition, she is a member of the Tyler Chamber of Commerce, Francis Shivers Guild #7, Wardi Consistatory #236 Golden Circle and Mellie Arps 195 Heroines of Jericho.
Willie Jean attends North Tenneha Church of Christ, under the ministry of Brother Kennon Olison, and serves as a member of the ministry’s Health Care and Baptism teams.
The daughter of the late Les and Robbie Ferguson, Willie Jean was born August 1st in Overton, Texas. Before attending Tyler Junior College, she graduated from John Tyler High School, where she belonged to the school’s book club and music club as well as Future Homemakers of America.
Willie Jean is married to Willie Cardell Wheeler, and they have two children- La Sonia West and Broshell Ford- and three grandchildren-Jazmine, Elizabeth and TJ.
